Harbor Light Hospice offers many diverse volunteer opportunities and is currently recruiting volunteers for the South Bend, Elkhart, LaPorte and Michigan City areas. Our patient companions serve in many capacities.
Some patients want us to read to them. Others like to listen to music. Still, others enjoy sharing their lives with us. Sometimes all they want is a hand to hold. Our spiritual companions provide reassurance and peace through reading of favorite Bible passages or praying with a patient. Our veteran volunteers spend time with fellow veterans, where stories are shared, compassion is offered and gratitude is expressed.
Our "Vigil Volunteers" help ensure that no patient dies alone, offering emotional support during the dying transition. The "Handy Helpers" assist families with lawn work, running errands, etc.
Volunteer assignments are local, the time spent is flexible and training is done to accommodate the volunteer.
